German EU Blue Card for Tech Talent
The EU Blue Card is a work and residence permit for highly qualified people from outside the EU who have a job offer in Germany. With a recognised degree, or strong IT experience, and an offer that meets the salary threshold, you can move, work, bring your family, and reach permanent residency in around two years.
Who it is for
Professionals with a recognised university degree and a German job offer, and experienced IT specialists who can qualify without a formal degree through around three years of relevant experience. It suits software, data, cloud, AI, and cyber security roles in demand in Germany.
Salary, costs and family
The general salary threshold is around €50,700 gross a year, with a lower threshold of around €45,934 for shortage occupations and recent graduates, which covers many tech roles. Government fees are modest. A spouse or partner and children under 18 can join, the spouse can work freely, and no German is needed to get the card.
