Portugal D8 Digital Nomad Visa
The D8 is Portugal's visa for non-EU remote workers and freelancers who earn from a company or clients based outside Portugal. It comes as a temporary stay visa for up to a year, or a residency route that leads to a residence permit and, in time, permanent residency and citizenship. Unlike the D7, which is for passive income, the D8 is for active income from remote work.
Who it is for
Remote employees, freelancers, and founders paid from abroad, including senior technology professionals, who can show a monthly income of around four times the Portuguese minimum wage. Your partner and children can join you.
Costs and family
The main costs are a modest consular visa fee and a separate residence permit fee collected in Portugal, applied per person. Adding a partner and children raises the income you must show. Fees and thresholds change, so confirm the current figures before you apply.
